R.C.I.A (RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION FOR ADULTS)

R.C.I.A.  Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is a journey, not only into the Catholic Church, but even more importantly, a journey into a deeper relationship with God.  Each person who participates in R.C.I.A. experiences a meaningful conversion as they travel with the group throughout the year.

Jesus said to them, “Come, and you will see.”  (Jn 1:39).  To every person, Jesus sends a personal invitation into a personal relationship with Him.  We invite all who are interested in the possibilities offered to be a part of our Catholic faith to “come and see”.

At SEAS, we will begin our new R.C.I.A. year on September 5th, 2023 at 7 pm.
We look forward to welcoming people who are unbaptized, those looking into the possibility of becoming Catholic from other faith traditions, those Catholics wishing to complete the Sacraments of Initiation and those looking for a faith update.

We invite all parishioners to join us, in one of four ways:
Pray for those in RCIA.
Help with some task, such as making a presentation.
Be a sponsor.
Be a team member.
Perhaps Jesus is working through you today to invite someone to enter into R.C.I.A.  Do you know anyone whose name you can give?  We will extend the invitation to them to “Come and See”.

BAPTISM

We regularly schedule a baptism preparation class by appointment. Please contact the parish secretary at (907) 345-4466.

Parents should be registered and active members of the parish. The baptism preparation program is held to prepare Parents and Godparents for the Catholic commitment they are making for their child. Parents may begin the baptismal preparation process prior to the birth of the child.

MARRIAGE PREPARATION

Please call the office at (907) 345-4466 to schedule an appointment to meet with the parish priest or deacon at least six months prior to your anticipated wedding date.

During this time, there are three programs that the couples are involved with: the FOCCUSS (inventory to help couples recognize the strengths and weaknesses of their current relationship and to plan realistically for the future), an Engaged Encounter Weekend at Holy Spirit Center and a two-evening course in Natural Family Planning. The priest or deacon preparing you for marriage will assist you in scheduling these items and he will discuss them with you at the first meeting. Following this first meeting the priest or deacon can confirm the wedding date with you. You will receive a parish wedding planning book to assist you in your planning.

It is important that the Catholic partner(s) send away for a recent copy of their baptismal certificate (dated around the time of the first meeting). The parish has its own cantor and organist available for hire or the couple can bring their own cantor and organist with them. Our Music Director is available to assist the couple in selecting music appropriate to this sacrament.

Should one or both partners have a previous marriage, the priest or deacon will discuss the annulment process. This pertains to either or both of the parties even if one of them is not Catholic.

Again congratulations on your engagement and we look forward to sharing in your joy!

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding! The Sacrament of Holy Matrimony, as with all sacraments, is an action of God, expressed in the context of the faith community. Wedding dates are reserved on a first come, first served basis. Weddings are scheduled for Saturdays, but not during the seasons of Advent and Lent or on Holy Saturday. Couples should approach the church to begin their marriage preparation process at least six months in advance.
